(a) It shall be unlawful for trucks over 18 feet in length to park on the public square of the city or within one-half block extending therefrom. Trucks over 18 feet in length when parking the city outside of above prohibitive zone, shall park parallel to the curb line not to exceed 20 inches therefrom.
(b) A truck vehicle is defined as any self-propelled motor vehicle designed and/or used for the hauling or transporting of property. A Truck Vehicle without adequate rear end protection shall be one that is so constructed that the body of the chassis assembly has a clearance at the rear end of more than 30” from the ground when empty, lacking rear end protection such that the clearance between the effective bottom of the bumpers or devices and the ground is more than 30” with the vehicle empty, and further that the maximum distance between the closest points between the bumpers or devices, if used, is greater than 24” and the maximum traverse distance from the widest part of the motor vehicle at the rear to the bumper or device exceeds greater than 18”, and/or the bumpers or devices are located more than 24” from the extreme rear of the vehicle.
(c) It shall be unlawful for any person to park in an area zoned residential within the limits of the City of Yates Center, Kansas, a truck vehicle without adequate rear end protection as defined by this section.
(d) Any person convicted of a violation of this section shall be deemed guilty of a non-moving traffic violation and shall be punished by a fine of not more than $100.

(a) The city council may designate, establish and maintain bus stops on the public streets of Yates Center.
(b) The city council may order the elimination of the bus stops whenever it appears to be in the best interest of the public.
(c) It shall be unlawful for the driver of any bus to stand or park upon any street in any business district or at any place other than at a bus stop, except that this provision shall not prevent the driver of any such vehicle from temporarily stopping in accordance with other stopping or parking regulations at any place for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading and unloading passengers. Bus stops will be made at least 20 feet from pedestrian crossings.

(a) Except in obedience to traffic signs, the driver of a vehicle shall not stop, stand, or park in a roadway other than parallel with the edge of the roadway, headed in the direction of traffic and with the curb-side wheels of the vehicle within 12 inches of the edge of the roadway, except as provided in the following paragraphs.
(1) Upon the streets which by order of the city council have been marked or signed for angle parking, vehicles shall be parked at the angle indicated by such marking. There is hereby established a two-hour parking limit from Monday through Friday--inclusive from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m., to 9:00 p.m.
(2) In places where, stopping for the loading or unloading of merchandise or materials is permitted, vehicles use for transportation of merchandise of materials may back into the curb to take on or discharge loads provided not less than 20 feet of roadway is left free for vehicular traffic.
(3) Double parking around the square of Yates Center shall be permissible only where a qualified attendant driver is in the rear vehicles and the vehicle is parallel to the curb for period not exceeding 15 minutes. Triple parking is prohibited.
(b) No parking generally.
(1) There shall be "NO PARKING" signs on the west side of south Main Street between the streets of Mary and Chellis.

No person shall operate or halt any motor vehicle in such a manner as to indicate a careless or heedless disregard for the right or the safety of others, or in such a manner as to endanger, or be likely to endanger, any person or property.

(a) The speed limit shall be set at 15 mph on West Wilson Street between Turner Street and Wildcat Lane.
(b) The speed limit shall be set at 20 mph on Madison Street between Main Street and East Street.

(a) No person operating, occupying or leaving parked unoccupied a motor vehicle on a street, highway, alley, parking lot, or driveway shall operate or permit the operation of any sound amplification system from within the vehicle so that the sound is plainly audible at a distance of 50 or more feet from the vehicle.
(b) Definitions.
(1) Sound Amplification System - Any radio, tape player, compact disc player, loud speaker, or other electronic device used for the amplification of sound.
(2) Plainly Audible - Any sound produced by a sound amplification system from within the vehicle, which clearly can be heard at a distance of 50 feet or more. Measurement standards shall be by the auditory senses, based upon direct line of sight. Words or phrases need not be discernible and bass reverberations are included. The motor vehicle may be stopped, standing, parked or moving on a street, highway, alley, parking lot, or driveway.
(c) It is an affinitive defense to a charge under this section that the operator was not otherwise prohibited by law from operating the sound amplification system, and that any of the following apply:
(1) The system was being operated to request medical or vehicular assistance or to warn of a hazardous road condition;
(2) The vehicle was an emergency or public safety vehicle;
(3) The vehicle was owned and operated by the city or a gas, electric, communications or refuse company;
(4) The system was used for the purpose of giving instructions, directions, talks, addresses, lectures or transmitting music to any persons or assemblages of persons in compliance with ordinances of the city;
(5) The vehicle was used in authorized public activities, such as parades, fireworks, sports events, musical productions and other activities which have the approval of the department of the city authorized to grant such approval.

(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to ride any bicycle or skateboard upon any sidewalk within the business districts of this city.
(b) It shall be unlawful for any person to ride any bicycle or skateboard upon any sidewalk within the residential districts of this city without the permission of the landowner and/or tenant.
(c) It shall be unlawful for any person to ride any bicycle or skateboard upon any area of the city or property owned by the city in an unsafe manner, in any way which interferes with pedestrian traffic or automobile traffic or in any manner which constitutes a nuisance.
(d) Each and every person violating any of the provisions of this article shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be fined in any sum not less than $10 nor more than $50.

(a) The term jake brake as used herein means any device commonly known by that name or any similar device used to slow a motor vehicle by engine compression creating loud or excessive noises to be emitted through the vehicle’s exhaust system.
(b) It shall be unlawful for any person operating a motor vehicle within the limits of the City of Yates Center, Kansas, to use a “Jake Brake” system installed in said motor vehicle.
(c) The provisions hereof shall be in addition to the provisions of Code Section 14-206 of the City of Yates Center, Kansas, prohibiting loud sound amplification systems and shall not by implication or otherwise be construed as replacing or in conflict with any provision of said Code Section 14-206.
(d) Any person convicted of a violation of this section will be deemed guilty of a non-moving traffic violation and punished by a fine of not more than $100.00.

Yield signs shall be placed on Ridge Street for north and south bound traffic at the intersection of Park Street and Ridge Street.
A stop sign shall be placed at the following locations:
(a) On East Kansas Street where Kansas intersects north and south running Grove Street forming at-intersection. This stop sign shall cause all westbound traffic on East Kansas to come to a complete stop before entering Grove Street. There shall be no stop signs placed on Grove Street at this intersection.
